A Child's Prayer

During bedtime prayers last night, Natalie (3 yrs old) stopped in the middle of her prayer and said, daddy, I don't want Jesus to have to die on the cross. So we had a long talk through all the doctrinal concepts of the atonement, grace by faith, the New Covenant vs Old Covenant (just kidding), and then she finished praying and she was in tears that Jesus had to die for us, and doesn't want to wait to see him because she is sad about the scars on his hands. I really wish I recorded our kids prayers on a regular basis - they are so precious and so deep and thought provoking at times.
Anyway, so it reminded me about the importance of praying for our kids, which I try to do on a daily basis and of teaching our kids how to pray. Below are some tools that have been helpful to me and I hope you find them useful as well. Take them for what they're worth and adapt them as you see fit.

Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
Proverbs 22:6Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.
